i'll take the evolution of bordeaux for 100

With only seven more days until Christmas, I'm not going on record saying that I need a holiday survival kit . . . but I'm not saying that I don't! I love the idea of sending a friend a bottle of wine with this cute letterpress card from Boxcar Press. Add a bottle opener or some tumblers for a festive gift pairing.

If you're not sure whether to choose the red or the white, this site takes the guesswork out of gifting wine and spirits. (This is also a fantastic last-minute gift idea . . . especially for a far-away friend or even as a stocking stuffer.) With cocktail kits for drinks with names like "Midnight Marauderand wine selections that come with carefully curated themes like "The Evolution of Bordeaux" and "The Future of Sicily," this just might be the perfect $100 gift.

What would be in your holiday survival kit?

There are short-cuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.
— Vicki Baum

Unfortunately, there's no short-cut out of the mall parking lot during the holidays! Sometimes, it's hard to remember that happiness is supposed to be part of the holidays too. Like when there's an endless December "to-do" list staring back at you. Or, for me, when you're attempting a 17-day, three city, holiday tour of Texas ... with a baby. (Wish me luck!)

There was a sign up in the Cleveland Park metro station one year that said the only thing that makes people happier than volunteering is dancing. I love that. So, after you find an excuse to shake your tail feather, remember what really matters this holiday season and find a way to brighten someone's day or find a way to give back to your community. I'm pretty sure that donating toys to little ones in need is a pretty sure short-cut to happiness too.

'tis better to give

Need some Christmas spirit? This will do it.

This year we're bringing a snowy Canadian Christmas to a community in the Dominican Republic.
